Run Analysis

Research-grade technology meets sports medicine mastery and current trends in running mechanics.

One-stop Running Shop

Innersport is the Bay Area’s running injury doctor and one-stop shop for all running injuries, with the unique ability to perform an orthopedic examination and diagnosis to treatment.  Most other practitioners are either a diagnostician referring to rehab practitioners or a rehab practitioner without the license to diagnose.  Here at Innersport, we do both. This is an advantage for the patient as it eliminates the back and forth between practitioners, saving time and resources.

How Do I Know If I Need a Run Analysis?

Do you wonder if you pronate too much?

Do you wonder why you wear your shoes out asymmetrically?

Do you wonder why all your injuries are on one side of your body?

Do you feel like you are losing speed?

Do you have a nagging injury or chronic tightness?

Our Approach & What to Expect During Your Visit

Through 20+ years of research, attending conferences, and treating hundreds of runners, Dr. Jess has become the bay area running injury expert, treating runners of all levels including Olympians as well as couch-to-5k/new runners.  Regardless of a runner’s ability and experience, all runners get the same running assessment and treatment below.

We separate the service in two visits to have ample time to analyze the data.

1st visit:   Run around Lake Merritt  to collect data and video

2nd visitMeet with Dr. Jess for our proprietary running exam and review your data and videos.

Full Analysis of the Running Gait

We collect the same data researches use to analyze movement followed by videos from 3 views.

Data is collected in real running environment around Lake Merritt

We attach a pod on each foot as well as the sacrum and send you off for a run around beautiful Lake Merritt.  We get real data as if you are on a training run as opposed to unnatural running and pace collect on treadmills.  You run on your own in a comfortable natural running environment without cameras or eyes watching you.  This allows us to see your true running mechanics on real roads as opposed to unnatural, tense running we often see in indoor labs.

Range of motion, posture, joint assessments, alignment, and other orthopedic tests

We perform a full flexibility and mobility assessment, postural analysis, and orthopedic tests related to your injury or complaint.

Analysis and report of findings of all data and exam results

You will receive the raw data, videos, and exam findings as well as a summary of the significant findings pertinent to your running performance.

Strength, stretches, and technique drills to corrrect mechanics

You will receive strengthening exercises, stretches, and running drills to correct form and technique as well as to address your running injury.

“Dr. Greaux helped me identify specific muscle strength imbalances, which allowed me to apply proper exercises to strengthen the weak parts so I can continue to train injury-free.”

Magdalena Boulet, Olympic Marathoner, Western States Female Winner

“Video analysis was a vital tool that helped Dr. Greaux diagnose an injury in my left leg. I came to Innersport with a list of symptoms, but I had no idea what had caused the initial injury. Slow motion analysis revealed what had been affected by the injury, and which muscle groups were not working efficiently. After regular visits to Innersport for ART, along with a series of prescribed exercises, I’m healthy and ready to take on the Boston Marathon."

– Peter Gilmore, Former Professional Marathoner

7th place Boston Marathon 2006

10th place New York Marathon 2006 (first American)

“I gained a lot of insight into the mechanical deficiencies which may be correlated with knee pain I’ve been feeling when running long distance. It gave me specific points of focus on form and alignment, and on flexibility to enable that alignment. I think anyone contemplating training for a running event should have someone like Dr. Jess look at their form. Would you just hop into the gym and hit the weights without learning proper technique? Running is no different.”
