Physical Therapy

Deirdre McLoughlin, MSPT

Physical Therapist Deirdre McLoughlin graduated cum laude from Boston University in 1994 and then received her masters in physical therapy, also from BU, in 1995. While at BU, she was a member of the Division I National Championship Women’s Crew Program and while working towards her masters, began assistant coaching crew from 1994-1995.

Deirdre’s practice includes treating musculoskeletal injuries and dysfunctions, with a focus on treating the spine and sports injuries. Her passion is working with clients not only to relieve symptoms and improve their function but analyzing the “WHY” about the injuries her clients have. She has spent the last 4 years at UC Berkeley working with the general student population as well as collegiate athletes. In 2005 she was the physical therapist for the NCAA National Rowing Championship Cal Berkeley Women’s Crew.

Deirdre continues to take advanced coursework and is currently working toward her clinical doctorate degree at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Health Professions in Boston, MA. She also stays involved with rowing and is currently coaching at the Marin Rowing Association.

Betsy has been with Innersport since it’s door’s opened January, 2004.  She is a Licensed Massage Therapist and Strength and Conditioning Coach, specializing in the Myofascial Integration Technique and the Myoskeletal Alignment Technique. As a result of her participation and experience in the athletic arena, she enjoys working with athletes or individuals who lead an active lifestyle. She has worked with various sports teams and their athletic training staff assisting in injury prevention, performance enhancement, and rehabilitation. Her Massage Therapy License is enhanced by her degree in Exercise Science, Masters in Sports Administration, as well as her certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Her eclectic knowledge of the human body offers her clients a unique insight into the structure and function of the body.

Betsy was a Strength and Conditioning Coach and massage therapist for the University of Tennessee Sports Medicine department where she worked closely with swimming, track and field, volleyball, soccer, and occasionally basketball. She is currently the massage therapist for the St. Mary’s College Rugby nationally ranked men’s rugby team.  As a massage therapist, she has the essential skills to treat elite athletes and weekend warriors alike.  Having the unique combination of massage therapy and personal training certification, Betsy is able to train clients looking to get back to doing what they love, and doing it optimally.

Amy Howards

Amy is a Certified Massage Therapist who brings over 17 years of hands-on experience to her practice of bodywork and massage therapy. Her sessions are individually tailored by blending the rehabilitative techniques of Orthopedic Massage which focus on specific muscles, joints and patterns of dysfunction in the soft tissue of the body with Deep Tissue and Myofascial Release bodywork to address chronic tension and adhesions in the muscles and connective tissue that lead to injuries.  Additionally, she incorporates CranioSacral Therapy into her sessions, which allows the body to unwind from the core for lasting changes. She always works with the patient’s tolerance and goals in mind.

Amy has been a member of the faculty at the National Holistic Institute in Emeryville and the Western Institute of Science and Health in San Francisco. Her experience also includes working with fitness enthusiasts in an athletic club setting and dealing with various conditions including Repetitive Strain Injuries and motor vehicle accidents in clinical and medical settings. When not at Innersport she can be found caring for employees at Pixar Animation Studios or at her studio in San Francisco.
